Parasitology Research
Major role and responsibilities of parasitology lead executive include:
- Conduct collaborative research to control and eliminate internal (protozoan and helminths), ectoparasites and disease transmitting vectors.
- Conduct/perform control and prevention when internal or external parasitic diseases and vector borne diseases that occur above the normal level of occurrence.
- Investigate vector-borne diseases/disease spread by vectors that have not been reported in the country but would causes serious economic damage if occurred.
- Organize data by studying the national distribution, economic and social damage of internal and external parasitic diseases and identifies systematic prevention and control methods
- Conduct research on the efficacy and anthelmintic, antiprotozoal/trypanocidal and acaricide resistance drug used to treat internal and external parasites.
- Provide alternative strategies for parasite control to reduce skins and hides rejection and evaluate effectiveness of the control strategies through investigation.
- Identify and conduct problem solving researches on honey bee disease and pests in the potential honey bee regions of the country and conduct active surveillance to have baseline data and to conduct adaptive trials to come up with the preventive and control option to increase their productivity
- Provide training and counselling service about internal and external parasitic, fish and bee diseases for the regional laboratories, clinics, the farmer and University student who engage our institution
- Identify fish and aquaculture disease in potential aquaculture and water bodies of Ethiopia that affect fish health and their production
