Kality Tsetse Flies Research Center is based at Kality, Addis Ababa. The center has an irradiation facility with industrial irradiator (cobalt-60) as the radiation source and the source are used for blood meal irradiation and male tsetse flies sterilization before release. The irradiation facility is well equipped with biosecurity system including security cameras that give alarm whenever something strange is taking place around the facility.

The Center has responsible for:

• Carryout tsetse strain adaptation, tsetse fly mass rearing and male fly sterilization
• Conduct research activities related to Tsetse fly species.
• By applying sterile insect technique (SIT), release sterile male flies to Deme valley for the eradication of wild population of the tsetse flies.
• Conduct quality control assessment in the laboratory with two separate rooms for blood sample storage and examination.
• Conduct release assessment of tsetse flies.
• Transfer technology and knowledge to local and international visitors.
• Conduct the socioeconomic impact of SIT technology in the operational areas.
• Give sample radiation service for stakeholders
