Bacteriology and Mycology Laboratory (BML) is one of these labs which is a BSL-2 laboratory and is accredited for ISO 17025 QMS for isolation and identification of E.coli, S.aureus and Salmonella spp. This lab has also participated in External Quality Assessment (EQuAfrica) for four consecutive rounds and scored excellent result to be accredited for PT provider for AST. In BML different laboratory tests are conducted including bacterial isolation and identification using conventional, commercial kit (API 20E mostly for training purpose) and automated methods. For the automated identification methods, the lab uses the latest high-tech equipment such as MALDI-TOF and OmniLog GEN III which can identify to the species level of animal, human and plant pathogens with high specificity and sensitivity.
