Asossa Animal Health Research Center (AAHRC)

Asossa Animal Health Research Center is located in Asossa town and is expected to cover an area of 35,000 km2 that are seriously affected by T&T in Benshangul Gumuz region. 

The center has responsible to:

  • Conduct baseline data of T&T management using trap deployed, trypanosome parasite detection and flies dissection.
  • Conduct research activities related to T&T.
  • Identify trypanosome parasite using buffy coat techniques and provides animal health service for the community.
  • Coordinates the implementation of area wide integrated insect control technology in the mandate areas.
  • Coordinates all field activities including stakeholder engagement and community awareness creation, sensitization, mobilization.
  • Conduct T&T assessment, monitoring, evaluation and related field activities.
  • Create strong working relationships with universities, and regional, zonal and district animal resource sectors.
  • Expand and sustain areas that are free from T&T
  • Make T&T free areas ready for crop-livestock production in consultation with concerned local government bodies.
  • By conducting socioeconomic assessment, promote benefit obtained from the control of T&T.
  • Strengthen integrated T&T control activities, increasing the production and productivity of livestock and contribute to ensuring food security and alleviating poverty and improving lives and livelihoods in the communities.
