Disease surveillance

• In disease absence; conduct surveillance for early detection and rapid response, as well as demonstration of freedom
• In disease presence, conducts surveillance to measure the level of diseases, and new case findings
• Prepares risk analysis document, conduct risk analysis, maps the findings, presents findings to stakeholders
• Assesses animal disease prevalence and evaluate their impact, provides information for development and improvement of animal health policy documents and disease control strategies, and participate in their design
• Prepares guidelines, manuals and procedures which support to investigate diseases outbreaks, disease surveillance, and monitor their implementation.
• Evaluates the effectiveness of strategies or procedures for disease outbreak investigation, disease surveillance and health service delivery; designs better options, improve the gaps, and also raises awareness among stakeholders.
• Harmonizes disease surveillance plan and diagnostic SOPs based on the national and neighbor country experiences and practices
• Advices and provides information on type of diseases and their prevalence for investitures who want to be engaged in animal health sector

Disease outbreak investigation Services

• Works to identify the cause of the outbreak, track its origin, spread, and implement measures to control and prevent future occurrences.
• Works on disease outbreak investigations and emergency response activities in collaboration sub-national labs and other partners, and provide feedback, and measures to contain outbreak, and prevent future occurrences.
• Some examples of diseases that have been investigated include: Trans-boundary animal disease, emerging and re-emerging diseases, Diseases with socio-economic, public health and trade importance.
• Analyzes disease outbreak, surveillance, risk analysis and other associated animal health data using appropriate statistical tools, prepares and presents a report to relevant stakeholders.
